Nezinscot farm was the first dairy in the state of Maine to be certified organic. That was back in 1994.
In 1997 we joined with Organic Valley and began shipping milk wholesale to them. We have anywhere from 90 to 125 cows (both holsteins, jerseys, brown swiss and crosses ) and 12 to 15 goats producing milk at any given time.
As a certified producer of organic milk, we do not use antibiotics or hormones on our cows. We utilize homeopathic methods in caring for them, and we maintain as stress free of an environment as possible for the animals.
Ninety percent of all of our animals feed is grown by us with the balance being primarily cornmeal and minerals. We encourage you to visit the organic valley websight to learn more about our farmer owned co-op and the positive impact that we are making across the country. We help keep small family farms in business.
Our animals are in our pastures grazing from late April to November (or as long as mother nature permits). Throughout the year, they also have access to fermented feeds that are produced on our farm.
